The Mon Repos Emmanuel S.D.A. School recently celebrated Children’s Day with a series of engaging activities designed to promote community, creativity, and leadership among students. The celebration commenced at 9 AM with a morning worship service, setting a positive and reflective tone for the day’s events.

During the worship service, guest speaker Sylvina James addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of the Buddy Program. This program is designed to foster friendships and support among students, encouraging them to look out for one another and build a sense of community within the school. The Buddy Program is particularly beneficial in helping children develop social skills and emotional intelligence as they learn to navigate relationships with their peers.

The Buddy Program is an initiative that started in October at the school, organized by Loverly Sheridan and supported by various individuals. Under the theme “Inclusion for Every Child” with a focus on protecting futures and empowering dreams, students learned about the Buddy Bench program, which designates a bench where students can sit if they feel lonely or want to talk. Other students are encouraged to approach those on the bench to promote inclusivity and friendship. Some students were chosen as buddy leaders to help promote this program and ensure that all children feel included in school activities.

In preparation for Children’s Day, Mss. Jima Houry conducted painting sessions with the students. This initiative allowed children to express their creativity and showcase their artistic talents during the service. The display of artwork not only highlighted individual skills but also promoted teamwork as students collaborated on various projects.

Following the service, students enjoyed lunch sourced from their own back garden, showcasing an emphasis on sustainability and healthy eating practices. This initiative was part of a broader program by Making a Difference Foundation – Mon Repos Chapter, which aims to enhance student well-being through nutritious meals and environmental awareness. Mrs. Bessie Augustin, principal of Mon Repos Emmanuel S.D.A. School, played a pivotal role in organizing this event as she serves as the Chairperson for Making a Difference Foundation’s local chapter. Her leadership has been instrumental in implementing programs that benefit both students and the wider community.

The Children’s Day celebration at Mon Repos Emmanuel S.D.A. School was marked by meaningful activities that promoted friendship through programs like Buddy Bench and artistic expression through painting while also emphasizing sustainability with meals from their garden.
