A father is defending his son after he was killed in a shooting incident related to gang violence. Lynch Jr, also known as Red Boy, was one of two men who were shot and killed during the gang violence in Marchand at around 12 pm.
Minister for Crime Prevention, Hon Jeremiah Norbert, said that the incident was gang-related. But Lynch’s father, Evitus Lynch Sr, says, “He was not a bad person. This is especially hard for me because we share the same name, Evitus Lynch Jr. He was my first son, and that’s really bad.”
Lynch’s girlfriend is mourning his loss and is saddened by the fact that he won’t be there for the birth of their child. She made a heartfelt plea to those involved in gun crime to seek peace and end the violence, saying, “He’s not even there to see his unborn child. That touched me a lot. I have to raise a baby on my own, which I cannot do. I don’t even know what to say.” She added, “All violence needs to stop because Junior wasn’t a bad person. He had his ways, but he was a good man. He would take off his shoe and laugh, tell jokes, but he wasn’t a violent person.”
The second victim, Thaddeus Dennis, is also deeply missed by his family. Dennis’s mother spoke to the press, emphasizing the importance of parental guidance and the detrimental impact of negative influences on the youth. “Everybody keeps on saying you need to speak to your kids. But then you see friends, bad friends influence followers. We parents, I think we need to continue speaking to our youths because trust me, I don’t want anybody to feel what I am feeling there. I’m empty inside. I’m broken. I’m there like an empty, empty barrel. I’m empty,” she said emotionally.
Both victims were well known to the police. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Gros-Islet Police Station by dialing 456-3830 or the Major Crimes Unit at 456-3754. Alternatively, they can provide anonymous tips by dialing 555 (the Crime Hotline) or by using the RSLPF Crime Hotline Application, available in the Google Play Store.
