Once again, Housing minister Richard Frederick has found himself in hot water for statements made on his Thursday night talk show “Can I Help You”. This time, for derogatory comments aimed at former Government Minister Fortuna Belrose and a scathing attack on a longtime vender, Ursula Fannis. The women’s arm of the United Workers Party has taken umbrage at these remarks by the minister and has released a statement condemning his actions.
This isn’t the first time that Frederick has been taken to task for using his show as a platform to launch attacks on persons with whom he disagrees. Several individuals have suffered the minister’s wrath, a great majority of them women.
This has led the Women’s Arm of the United Workers Party to call for Frederick’s removal from office, for what they deem as his lack of respect for the women of the nation. In a press release dated April 12th, 2024, the organization branded Frederick’s actions as “a blatant affront to the dignity of women and an egregious abuse of his platform and power”.
The advocacy group has called for Frederick’s immediate removal from office and has invited civil society groups and other concerned citizens to join them in the pursuit of a society where all are treated with dignity and respect.
