The United Workers Party continues to express concerns over the status of St Lucia’s visa free access and visa waivers to Europe, the UK, Canada and the United States. In a press release dated April 18th, 2024, the party cited that the Prime Minister’s admission that he was the only head of state summoned before the European commission, and that St Lucia was the only CIP participating state yet to sign the Memorandum of agreement, has created apprehension among the populace.

The UWP has also raised questions about the potential ramifications of the Prime Minister’s refusal to sign the MOA, which is designed to synchronize the CIP programs throughout the region and strengthen security procedures for applicants.

The (UWP) has appealed to the Prime Minister to sign the MOA immediately in order to provide assurances to Saint Lucians regarding the preservation of their visa-free access and waivers and to disclose the underlying reasons for his reluctance to sign the MOA.

The opposition has also called on Prime Minister Pierre to stay true to his campaign promise and put the people of Saint Lucia first!
