St Lucia Carnival 2024 is set to be the biggest celebration to date in the island’s history…so says chair of the Carnival Planning and Management Committee, Tamara Gibson. Gibson was speaking at the official press launch for the event which was held on Thursday April 4th. During her presentation, Gibson announced the addition of several new features to the carnival splendor, including a special focus on the junior celebrations.

In addition to the customary Junior Calypso Competition and the Junior Parade of The Bands, Gibson unveiled the new School’s Panorama Competition. This, she says, is aimed at fostering widespread appreciation for the artform among the youth. A move, the CPMC hopes will contribute to the longevity of steel pan music in St Lucia.

Gibson also named 10 local brand ambassadors, who will be tasked with meeting, mentoring and coaching junior calypsonians in the nation’s educational institutions. The ambassadors will first embark on a school’s tour geared at identifying talent among students interested in the artform.

Select schools will even be graced with performances. According to Gibson, an investment into the development of the future generation of creatives is necessary if St Lucia Carnival is to be sustainable. The CPMC, she notes, is determined to see the festival grow and survive for future generations to enjoy.

The 10 Carnival brand ambassadors are Arthur Allain, Chaz, Cooyah, Ezra D Fun Machine, Hollywood Hp, Ricky T, Sedale, Shemmy J, T-Blacks and Umpa.
