In the lead up to the 68th annual Health Research Conference held by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), a number of activities have been scheduled to drum up interest. The conference will provide an opportunity for health professionals and other stakeholders to examine crime as a public health scourge plaguing the region.
As a precursor to the event, a town hall meeting will be convened at the Financial Services Center, at Pointe Seraphin, on April 24th from 6pm to 8pm. The meeting will be held under the theme “Violence and the youth”. In recent times the island has been inundated with violent crime, more often than not, perpetrated by young persons. With the gruesome discovery of two bodies on Tuesday, the homicide count has jumped to 24, bringing the crime situation into sharp focus. The town hall meeting will dissect the effect of violence on the nation’s youth while exploring avenues to detract from criminal activity.
All interested persons are encouraged to attend the session, which is being hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs.
