Press Release: “The Work Landscape – Post-Pandemic” is the local theme for this year’s observance of United Nations Public Service Day on June 23. Every year, the Saint Lucia Public Service commemorates the occasion with a slew of events. However, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the program of activities this year has had to be significantly condensed to only three main events which will be hosted during the week of June 21 to 27, 2021.

A Departmental Staff Appreciation and Recognition Day will be observed during the course of Public Service Week. All agencies are encouraged to dedicate that week to recognizing and appreciating their staff, particularly, for their dedication to serve diligently during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Permanent Secretary in the Department of the Public Service, Ms. Peggy-Ann Soudatt, “Employees have remained committed to our mission as a Public Service, even during these difficult times. If we as agencies can show that their work is valued, then their satisfaction and productivity will rise, and they will be motivated to maintain or improve their good work”.

The second event will be an Ecumenical Service scheduled for Wednesday, June 23, at 9:30a.m., at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. The service will be live streamed on the National Television Network and the Government of Saint Lucia Facebook page.

Public Service Week 2021 observance will conclude with a panel discussion slated for Friday, June 25, at the studios of the Government Information Service. This forum will provide the opportunity for open discussion on “The Work Landscape: Post-Pandemic”, what this means for the Public Sector and further strategies for successfully coping with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
