A freak system sneaked up on Barbados in the wee hours of June 17, 2021. Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley expressed gratitude that no lives were lost and that no serious injuries were sustained. The system left may homeless and some houses were flooded.
The central and northern parts of the island were the areas greatly affected by the system. It lasted for approximately ninety minutes and dumped almost six inches of rain, accompanied by storm-force winds which reached up to 40 kilometers per hour.
Barbados Meteorological Service did not categorize this system as a storm or hurricane. After reeking havoc in Barbados this system headed to St Vincent where in produced a lot of rainfall.
Prime Minister Mottley has encouraged Barbadians to put measures in place to prepare themselves for the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season.
